My Story
After struggling with my mental health after having my baby girl it took me a while to reach out for help. I was suffering from disturbing intrusive thoughts and didn't understand what was happening to me. I thought by ignoring my mental health that things would just go away but the opposite happened and I spiralled. The day I finally plucked up the courage to reach out for help I remember being absolutely terrified that my baby would be taken away. I was referred to postnatal mental health care which I then received a diagnosis of postnatal OCD. I was shocked to learn that what I had been experiencing was OCD specifically PURE O a subtype where it is difficult to see compulsions as they tend to be mentally. Because what I had previously understood to be OCD I was unable to see that I had been experiencing that and took me soo long to get the help I needed. I now realise the importance of raising awareness on mental health and why it is soo important. I started running to raise awareness of obsessive compulsive disorder and the many subtypes of this disorder. If me fundraising to run a 10K helps one other mum out there then I'm happy.
